The severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2), which caused the coronavirus outbreak (Covid-19) has been declared a pandemic by WHO in March 2020. The significance of research and development on Covid-19 is more crucial now than ever in these unprecedented times. Research communities around the world are scrambling to collect as much scientific data as possible to understand the characteristics of this novel coronavirus. Information such as genome sequence, origins and evolution, diagnostics, treatments, vaccine development, immune response and more would help to mitigate the pandemic.
Currently, there is increasing demand for viral RNA extraction kits and reagents. The novel coronavirus, SARS-CoV-2, is an RNA virus, which means it uses ribonucleic acid as its genetic material. It requires a process called reverse transcription, or RT, to transcribe its RNA into DNA.
As part of a global effort to accelerate the research for this novel coronavirus, Vivantis has launched the new ViPrimePLUS 2019-nCoV RT-qPCR Kit, and also recommend the use of relevant NA extraction kits such as GF-1 Viral Nucleic Acid Extraction Kit.
GF-1 Viral Nucleic Acid Extraction Kit can be used to extract RNA strands from samples such as virus-infected biological samples and purify them so they can be used for downstream applications, such as RT-qPCR and library prep for next generation sequencing and matched for signs of the novel coronavirus SARS-CoV-2, which lead to the pandemic disease COVID-19. Refer to GF-RD Manual for more details.
The newly launched ViPrimePLUS 2019-nCoV RT-qPCR Kit (Cat. No. QM5081) utilizes Taqman probe to detect 2019- nCoV genome. By using RT-qPCR method, the kit could detect the viral RNA from the range of 10 to <100 copies per reaction. Clinical samples such as nasopharyngeal and oropharyngeal swab, bronchoalveolar lavage, tracheal aspirate, nasopharyngeal aspirate or nasal wash, sputum and serum are suitable for the kit. Refer to the QM5081 Manual for more details.
In light of the rapidly increasing number of Covid-19 cases, Vivantis is committed and prepared to contribute to the research community by providing collaborative technical support, nucleic acid purification tools, amplification products and RT-qPCR technologies that streamline research workflow.
