Description
The ViPrimePLUS Candida albicans qPCR Kit is a Taqman probe-based real-time PCR assay for the detection of Candida albicans genomes in clinical samples (e.g. blood, genital swabs or fluids).
Candida albicans is a single-celled fungus that lives as a normal flora in the gastrointestinal tract. As an opportunistic pathogen, the colonization in the gut is balanced and does not cause any symptoms or complications in healthy individuals. In the event of overgrowth due to the shift in the gut commensal population, the fungus may become infectious, causing superficial candidiasis in the oropharynx (also known as “thrush”) and vagina (also referred to as yeast infection). In immunosuppressed patients, C. albicans may penetrate the mucosal membrane resulting in systemic infection as it invades and enters the bloodstream, causing lethargy, depression and eventually, death if left untreated.
