Description
The ViPrimePLUS Hepatitis Delta Virus RT-qPCR Kit is a Taqman probe-based real-time PCR assay for the detection of Hepatitis Delta Virus genome in clinical samples (e.g. blood plasma and serum).
Hepatitis D virus is a circular, single stranded RNA virus which requires hepadnavirus, i.e. HBV to replicate and cause infection as it does not cause disease by itself. Thus, HBV carriers are most susceptible to HDV infection. Co-infection or superinfection by HDV results in both acute and chronic disease. In rare cases, fulminant acute infection may lead to hepatitis encephalopathy. Chronic infection may cause hepacellular carcinoma, where liver transplant is the only cure due to the absence of anti-viral drug. Transmission of the virus is via blood. Routine screening could prevent irreversible liver damage via early illness management.
